What the heck is this?

Guess what this is:

Neurons?  Nope… Galaxies?  Nope…  An explosion of spermatozoa?  Nope!

Hint: it involves food and awesome medical imaging technology…

If you guessed “an MRI of a head of lettuce”, you are way too smart.

Get yourself over to Inside Insides where it seems as though an MRI technician has got way too much time on their hands (and the awesome job of calibrating a multi-million dollar machine)!

Another cool one:

Grapes!

What happens to our food… at the molecular level

This actually brought a tear to my eye…

Harvard scientists use cinematic animation techniques to demonstrate molecular and cellular biology.  Absolutely stunning.

We’re back!

After a long silence, I am SO excited to be back.

Summer has come to a close and we are well on our way into the beauty of harvest season in Ontario.  Coming in from the fields are delicious and nutritious foods; everything from beta-carotene rich sweet potatoes to polyphenol filled apples.

From root to tree limb, the colours, smells and tastes of fall abound.  So in this time of plenty, it’s perfect to get the Fodder File up and running again!

As you can see, we’ve done a bit of a re-design of the website, with a new theme and layout. This has, in part, been inspired by changes happening in my life at the moment – a new job and a recent graduation ceremony (I received my MSc. in Human Health and Nutritional Sciences from the University of Guelph).

As we continue to explore topics in evidence-based nutrition, I hope you will join the conversation, engage others in these topics and start to integrate nutrition into your life to improve your health.

I would love to integrate my professional interests (international health and nutrition) with my other personal interests (local foods, chronic disease prevention with functional foods).  I know – a bit of a juxtaposition, but it keeps me learning and versatile.

Thanks for reading!  If you have feedback or specific questions or comments, I’d love to hear from you.  Just use the “FAQ” tab to post them, or you can email the Fodder File directly at: thefodderfile@gmail.com

Cheerio…

p.s. As always, you can follow us on Twitter: @thefodderfile ; or you can find the Fodder File Page on Facebook.

Welcome!

We got a HUGE push today from the University of Guelph, “atGuelph” news service who ran a story on the Fodder File. (Tx!)

So for all those who are new to the Fodder File, please poke around, comment, and if you like what you see, consider subscribing: it’s easy, free and you can unsubscribe at any time!

Thanks for your interest in evidence-based nutrition.
